AFRICAN REAL BOOK DEVELOPMENT
Charts for student ensembles
One of the interesting results of the curriculum development program in East and South East Africa was the necessity to produce written materials for the students in the schools to learn to read and write charts when performing in ensembles. This was done by compiling an African Real Book.
Transcriptions for the African Real Book
Initially the trainers at the campus transcribed a range of tunes from different countries in the region but as the teacher training progressed the trainee teachers began to transcribe themselves. As a result the quantity of transcribed African music has increased dramatically with new songs being transcribed all the time.
This has resulted in the development of a unique collection of transcribed Afro-Fusion, Afro-Jazz and Traditional songs which are used in ensemble teaching in the schools from all the partner countries.
